The Author

Martha Earles, a native of Princeton, IN, is the daughter of the late Gordon and Wilhelmine (Wilder) White. She was married to the late Phillip R. Earles. She has a son, Bill, from a previous marriage and three stepchildren, Theresa, Phillip Jr, and Michelle. A granddaughter, six step-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren rounds out her family.

Martha graduated Princeton High School and later graduating as an associate degree nurse from Wabash Valley College with high honors. She retired from the Gibson County Ambulance Service in 2003 after more than 25 years of service to her county. While in EMS, she became an Indiana State Certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, First Responder and Auto Extraction Instructor and taught many of the county’s volunteer firefighters, law enforcement officers as well as some manufactures employees.

After seeing a set of old drums at the local library, Martha became interested in their history and started her research on their owner. She learned that the man was known as the Drummer Boy of the 17th Indiana Regiment she felt compelled to write about this amazing person’s life.
